Do the bowflex home gyms really work or should i just go to the gym instead?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I want to get big but not too big

I own a bowflex and it is a great machine. Just make sure you use it properly and follow the directions for the exercises they will send you. You can seriously hurt yourself while doing any type of exercise if you don’t do them correctly or over work yourself. You will not look the people in the commercials! They are body builders who work out for a living and follow very strict nutrition plans to get as big as they do.

This is going to be MY summer to look good this year!!! lol

Try the freecycle online group in your area…
It is a group of people who give stuff away rather than toss it in a landfill…

Through the freecycle group in my area I have gotten a nice bicycle and Gazelle….
Peace.

What is the the best home gym for a small area and a small budget?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I’m looking to get a new home gym system, or some sort of excercise equipment; I do not have a lot of money to spend, and I do not have many large places to put something, and I cannot buy a new free-weight system, as it crowds areas rather quickly. What types of systems should I look at? Resistance? Is there a horizontal type of system that I could look for, or are the better ones vertical types? I just need some general help in this. My basement is the largest and most empty place I have, and I think it goes up about 6 and a half or maybe 7 feet at most.

Dear j.1063

There are so many choices. If I were you, just for an example, I would buy a dip and chin-up station with a pair of weight cuffs. I wouldn’t waste my money, energy and time for all other fancy equipment if to do an effective work-out. I will still give you links to other popular equipment, which I think OK, for your consideration at the end.

Then I can do either weighted, or without weight

1) arm dips
2) leg raises
3) push-ups
4) chin-ups

With the weight cuffs alone you can do

1) biceps curls
2) triceps kickbacks
3) lateral raises
4) overhead presses
5) squats
6) lunges
7) leg curls

If you get seated and with your feet hanging away from the floor, with the weight cuffs you can do

1) leg extension as well

With a strap, just hook it to your stand and put your feet thru the loop, you can also do some crunches.

I will give you links to all movements mentioned, if dumbbells or cables are used in the demo, just replace with your weight cuffs *****

But of course you may buy other home gym… back in a minute with more information.

Mens at home fitness equipment…?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I’ve been seeing a lot of commercials for different items lately to ‘tone’ your body. Zone Pilaters; A ring in order to produce support and force to fight against. The "Amazing Ball’ which is basically a miniature medicine ball to help with crunches…

I’m wondering if there is anything like that for men? I’m not talking about anything like bowflex, I’m talking about something more aimed towards ‘closet storage’, personally. I saw this pull-up bar they have that looked intriguing, but I’m aiming for something more based towards base strength.

Arms and abs primarily is my focus. Hoping to find something I can do at home when I can’t make it to the gym.

Would appreciate any ideas very much; Thank you.

you could get a strip of that rubber, can’t think what it is called but it does everything. stand on it and pull in upwards(upward row) wrap it round the door handle and pull it back, like a horizontal row etc.

What is a great piece of fitness equipment for an amateur?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I am looking for in home equipment for cardio. I have never owned a piece of gym equipment. I am on a budget and definately don’t want a treadmill. I have quite a bit of weight to lose and am in my twenties. What would be good for me? An Elliptical, Stair Climber, what else? Also, what is a good brand to look for that is not overly expensive?

A jump rope helps alot and its cheap, builds cardio and burns calories. And you can take it anywhere.

Best cardio exercise equipment for someone with Plantar fasciitis?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I’ve gained about 20 pounds in the last year and have also developed plantar fasciitis in my right foot. I’m currently doing stretching exercises and wearing shoe inserts. I had planned to start walking but that’s not an option right now. What is the best cardio exercise equipment for me that won’t put unnecessary pressure on my foot?

Aqua Jogging, go to the local swimming pool and see if they run classes. Best of Luck
