I’m looking to tone up at home, and I don’t really have much exercise equipment. I have some free weights and ankle weights, as well as an exercise ball. I’m also doing some jogging and other cardio.
Do you know of any lower-body exercises for legs that I can do without gym equipment?
check out my website maybe i can create a plan for you
www.tofitness.ca you have to sign up and my boyfriend and i create workouts based on what you have available to you and what your goals are. maybe this will help you. thanks

What is needed for a complete home gym for weight training, aerobics training, martial arts training, boxing training, and strength training?
you don’t need to go out and spend a fortune on equipment to get a good workout. I would suggest only buying equipment as you need it. go to crossfit.com and get some ideas from there. some basic things to buy would be some free weights, jump-rope, a medicine ball, and one of those pads that go under your back for sit-ups.
why do you want everything to be in your house?
the best way to learn how to fight is go to a gym where they have equipment anyway. as for boxing you will need the following… wraps (best get at least 2 sets to switch off between so you can wash one set while using the other), bag gloves, sparing gloves (these have a part which covers the Velcro to avoid cutting your sparing partner. if you won’t be sparing right away hold off on these b/c they are expensive), mouth-guard, head-gear, and groin protection.

Hi, I’m a Uni student with a plan to spend at least 30mins a day on a home exercise programme (can’t afford the gym). I’d like to slim down, build up my upper body muscles and trim/tone my stomach (I’m short 5′ 5" if that’s relevant); practically full body really. I used to ride a bike extensively for 2 years which built up my legs but its no longer convenient in the city. Ideally I’m looking for fairly inexpensive (<£100 total) equipment and a plan that will help me achieve this. So far I own a set of 15kg dumbells. Any advice including diet would be great, thanks.
try getting some in home dvd’s to help you get some ideas for workouts without the gym. It’s cheaper that way too. Taebo works wonders (burns lots of calories in a short amount of time).
Cut your calories to about 1300- 1500 per day and work off about an extra 300-550 calories. The rest are burned off with daily activity. Eat lots of fiber and protein to build muscle and feel full. But eat a balanced amount (food pyramid) of everything. Try multivitamins too. The lack of these can cause cravings for foods that have too much of a certain nutrient that are also unhealthy.
Good luck!

The stationary bike, or exercise bike, is a relatively inexpensive piece of equipment as compared to treadmills or elliptical machines. Try these sample workouts to help keep your workouts fresh and keep you pedaling towards your fitness goals. You will need an exercise bike that allows you to adjust the resistance in your workout, and preferably one that lets you see how many rpm’s (how fast) you are pedaling.
Work up a quick sweat – 15 minutes – If you are pressed for time and want to get in a short, intense cardio workout, try this. Adjust the resistance to between level 3 to level 5, depending on your current fitness level. Bike for 15 minutes while keeping the RPM at or above 100 at all times.
Climbing Hills – 20 minutes Start off at a light resistance, between level 1 and level 3, depending on your fitness level. Bike for 4 minutes, keeping your speed between 85 and 95 RPM. At 5 minutes, adjust the resistance to between level 5 and level 8, depending on your fitness level. This should be a relatively difficult level of tension. Bike at this resistance level for 3 minutes, keeping your speed between 60 to 75 RPM. After 3 minutes, return to your original resistance level, and bike for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, raise the resistance back to your previous difficulty level, and bike for another 3 minutes. Alternate resistance levels every 3 minutes until you complete 19 minutes. Bike on level 1 at a leisurely pace for 1 minute to cool down and complete your 20 minutes.
Pyramid Scheme – 20 minutes Bike on level 1 for 2 minutes. Adjust the resistance to level 2 and bike for one minute. Adjust to level 3 and bike for one minute. Continue increasing the resistance level every minute until you get to level 9. Then work back down by decreasing the resistance level by one level every minute. Try to keep your pace above 75 RPM at all times. Finish off your workout by biking at level 1 at a medium pace (between 65 and 75 RPM) until you get to 20 minutes.

I asked which is better gym or at home but forgot to ask which machine the at home users liked the most
I don’t like gyms…even if they were free, I would not go there. Everybody’s sweating in the same room and I cannot really be comfortable in front of strangers, sweating as well.
Gyms are only good if you’re very strong and need a lot of heavy, expensive different machines or you need to be part of a class to get the motivation from a group (I do fine by myself).
I’m just an average woman so all I need is a good neighborhood, a stationary bicycle and some weights (and also my thigh master and my abs bar and my push-up handles…I have very thin wrists)…and a big sturdy piano bench I use as a weight bench.
At home, I do not have to drive there and I can do my abs in my underwear…
On my cardio days, I use an old DP Air Gometer, which is a stationary bicycle with upper body exercise.
It’s bulky and noisy but I get the best cardio workout on it, watching TV full blast…cardios plus lower and upper body workout.
(I have a five day routine that I just repeat…walk, cardio, walk, rest, weights, walk, cardio, walk, rest, weights)

50 year-old male uses a treadmill (almost) daily. I want to lose weight and get rid of my gut. What piece of exercise equipment should I buy next? It’s going in a semi-finished basement with a 7 1/2 foot ceiling (so a trampoline is probably out…) I’d like to keep the cost of the new or used equipment under $250.
A Swiss Ball is great. It gives you many options for exercise and takes up very little room;
