What is the best home exercise machine?
Considering space limitations of a small apartment, noise, overall workout, cost to maintain: which piece of exercise equipment is best (rower, stationary bike, elliptical, etc)?
Treadmill. It may take up more space than the others, but it has been proven to workout your entire body, and you don’t have to be super fit just to start using it, you can just start walking everyday and then fornightly/weekly make it ever-so-slightly, but not drastically, more challenging. Hope this helps ;D

an elliptical. for the amount of money one of the good ones cost; you can join a gym, and hire the short term services of a personal trainer. i,ve had four of these things. one was an excellent nordic track machine. never used them enough to justify the cost. i do go to the gym. $300 per year. all the machines i want; available any time except the middle of the night. since i pay, i go.

In my opinion the best would be the ‘versaclimber’, without a doubt the best cardio machine out there. It doesn’t take much space (only 36" x 44" of floor space), it’s non impact so it makes very little noise and it’s easy to maintain. Only problem….. it’s extremely expensive. Second choice would be one of those water rowers that you can fold after working out to save space, third choice would be a stationary bike like the one use for spinning.

If you insist on getting yourself a piece of cardio equipment, I would suggest a stationary bike. If you get a particularly quiet one that you can place in your living room in front of your TV, you can use it while watching TV or while reading or using your laptop (if you get a recumbent one).
In terms of the one that provides the best exercise for weight loss and fitness, I’d go for the treadmill. In my experience with having tried every type of cardio under the sun, nothing seems to compare to running.
But if I could advise you of a non-cardio piece of equipment, I would suggest a barbell with some weight plates. By far the best types of exercise you can do for losing weight, increasing strength and staying healthy is resistance training. Plus with a barbell you can do many types of cardio too, like step-ups with light weights, or holding some weight plates and walking up and down the stairs.
You can do many forms of cardio without any exercise machines at all, like burpees, shadow boxing and skipping.
