What are the safest & easiest ways to diet & slim down at home?

I’m about 5′10" & weigh about 190 lbs. I would like to safely start slimming down & get back to what is considered more of a healthy weight & size for my frame. My goal is to lose between 30-50 lbs. More specifically to drop my size 14/16 down to a 10/12 or a little lower. I specifically want to slim down, tighten & tone up my thighs (inner, outer, & all around). I also want to slim down, tighten & tone my middle. My abs, obliques, and glutes. & I want to tighten & tone my arms, especially the tricep area as I’m starting to get that slight arm flab women get. I don’t want that. I want nice tightly toned arms. Here’s the thing. I can’t afford to join a gym, nor do I really want to & I’ve researched/priced diets, eating plans, workout programs, & everything is so pricey & I’m on a limited income. What can I do to be active and work to get the results I want at home w/o gym equipment. How should I start eating to get healthy and kickstart my metabolism?? Thanks in advance.

You can eat healthy foods 4-5 times a day. This means that while taking the food pyramid into consideration, eat 4-5 (300-400 calorie) servings of food. Choose whole grain products, avoid red meat and stick to chicken, tuna, turkey, and other fish, avoid fried foods, high fat dairy products, and high fat dressing. Replacing some things with lower fat options is a good idea. Eating throughout the day will keep your blood sugar raised so that your metabolism stays up and it doesn’t dip down and give you a tired feeling. You will also see other improvements in your life such as shinier hair, nails, better skin, etc. because of your nutrition. In addition to eating healthy you need to exercise 5-6 days a week for about 30-45 min. each day. You can break the day into two parts if you need to of smaller amounts of exercise. But make sure the exercise raises your heart rate. Running, jogging, rollerblading, biking, and swimming are all good exercise. You can also walk but i suggest doing that for longer periods of time. You will start feelign better and seeing results after staying on a healthy exercise and food routine after a week. I also suggest to really watch food portions and read labels when counting calories.

I have had a lot of luck with pilates. They tighten everything. It looks easy, I got Pilates for Dummies at wal-mart when I watched it I thought it was going to be a breeze, but holding the different positions, and doing things in slow motion really takes energy and muscle control.

The South Beach Diet worked very well for me. I lost 35 pounds in 6 weeks by eating good fats (olive oil, canola oil, fish), lean proteins, veggies/salads and low fat cheeses. There are three phases of the diet; you gradually add good carbs back into your diet as you progress. I highly recommend that you read the book to fully understand how your metabolism will change. There is also a companion book available with recipes and grocery lists. I used to keep the paperback in my purse so that I would have it handy at the grocery store.

As for the exercise, yoga and aerobics are demonstrated on tv daily. Yoga will tone your whole body; aerobics will help you to burn calories.

    Cut the junk food
Eat more balanced meals include breakfast (most important meal of the day)
Walk for a mile a day or more (walking 1 miles burn the same amount calories as running 1 mile)
And try to do a couple of pushups a day
