Home gym? Ideas for home gym Equipment?

August 21st, 2010

I have a bench press yoga mat one set a 5 pound dung bells and a yoga ball. i want to set up a home gym for my family of 4, but we do not have much money… so what is needed for a mini home gym equipment?

I suggest Weider Total Body Works 5000. It is a true full body workout and really cheap in price.

What exercise equipment should i use to loose weight? Especially around my stomach?

August 21st, 2010

I’ve been running a bit on the treadmill lately, mostly for exercise, but I really want to work off extra fat, especially around my stomach. My neighborhood has a gym with most exercise equipment. Which should I use?
I’m a 15 year old girl too if that changes anything.

Use the ten lb weight bar on your shoulders, and twist. Use any equipment that is marked for abdominals. Use the Swiss ball. Do mat work. Use the stair master if they have it. Focus on contracting the abdominals. View the posters on the wall for ideas if they have them, or talk to the desk clerk about an orientation. At that time, ask a lot of questions about the various machines or book a trainer for one session, and tell the trainer your needs.

Best Home Gym Equipment for Weight Training?

August 17th, 2010

I am looking to start weight training and trying to decide whether it’s more cost effective to buy my own equipment or join a gym.

My question is….. if I decide to buy my own equipment what equipment is essential? I’ve been looking at olympic type barbell and dumbbells. A good solid bench with a squat stand. Anything else I need? I dont need any cardio equipment as I have the road outside and a good bike.

Thanks

A home gym is obviously more cost effective if you intend to be working out for a long time or have other people who would use the weights as well, like family, friends, etc.

If you want a home gym, you should stick with free weights unless you’ve got the money to fork out for a machine or two. Free weights are generally considered the best however, as machines are mostly for beginners. You’ll definitely need a bench press set complete with barbell and plates…probably another barbell or two (you might consider getting two – a regular one and a cured one), a variety of 45lb, 25lb, 10lb, and 5lb plates (1lb plates if you’re fussy). Get adjustable dumbbells that work with 10lb and 5lb plates as well so you can adjust the weight on them for different purposes. With this, you can do pretty much every well-known exercise: bench pressing, bicep curls, dips, power cleans, squats, lunges, etc. You’re only really missing a pull-up bar, which really depends on how much stress your door frames can take (you have to attach them to the top of a door and if the wood’s rotten…). Then again you could always do bent-over rows instead of pull-ups.

I would say get four of each plate except for the 10lb and 5lb ones; get 6 of those. 2~4 more of each if you intend to have a workout buddy.
